Yes, the weather is not great in these days, yet the clouds are slowly backing off to leave space to the clear sky we are used to see in August. So while you enjoy the by now cooled air we’ve been waiting for, don’t forget these are the best days to look up to the sky searching for shooting stars. Making a wish while looking at them is typical of tonight, August 10, the so-called “San Lorenzo night”, the night in which apparently Saint Lorenzo was martyred on embers, recalled today by the shooting stars. But also the next days are going to be a light show in the sky: actually this year the peak of the Perseides phenomenon, the meteor shower that the Earth is to cross during the summer, is going to be on August 12 and 13, next Wednesday and Thursday.
In La Spezia, there are a few awesome places were you can make a wish upon a falling star: places with no much artificial light to facilitate the view of a starry sky. One of them is the so-called Litoranea road, leading from town up to the hills of Cinque Terre. Another good spot is Antoniana, just behind La Spezia city. The Palmaria isalnd is also a great place to let yourself be charmed by the summer sky.
