Today is August 10, San Lorenzo, the night of the shooting stars for excellence. So many places to admire them in La Spezia in a particularly spectacular night thanks to the intervention of Jupiter.
For the moment it is a bit cloudy, but fortunately the bright swarm that characterizes the sky of San Lorenzo affects more days, and this year peak is expected on August 12.
The meteor impact occurs each year when Earth passes through areas of debris and dust that comets leave in their wake: in contact with the earth atmosphere become inflamed and give life, to our eyes, to the lighting “sagging” effect that crosses the sky. This year, it seems that Jupiter has decided to give a particularly fascinating show by creating an gravitational effect on swarms , bringing them closer to the earth. With the perfect sky, say the astronomers, in the early hours of 1 August 2 you could see up to 200 “shooting stars” per hour !
To see the stars , you know, it takes a little ‘eye peace further away from the city center, where it is easier to admire the beautyof the sky. In La Spezia, there are many places quite “dark”, especially going to the less populated heights, less easy if you choose the coast, which is often more experienced and enlightened.
The night landscape of the show is guaranteed if you choose to go on the hunt for stars in the highest part of the coast above Portovenere: the Muzzerone is one of the most popular spots for the night of the stars (directions: from the road to Portovenere, turning to the right in an uphill road at the town of Panigaglia, or passing by the location Acquasanta, climb towards Campiglia and follow the signs to the climbing school). Or you can choose the high ground overlooking the city, Parodi , and one of its many sights.
For those on foot, the hills above the town are a good place to watch the summer sky and the city from above: get to the Castle of San Giorgio, still in the city and lit, you can choose to continue the ascent on foot from one of the many stairways that reach Via dei Colli, and then go up again, to the highest point of the city, whereare the church of St. Pius X and the Mace Fort.
There are several initiatives in the area scheduled for tonight (in the hope that the clouds let space to clear skies) to admire the show, perhaps with the help of an astronomer, or an enthusiast who loves to tell the stars and their wonderful spectacle of these days.
For those who want to stay in town, or if the weather will not be forgiving, the Lia Museum in Via Prione organizes an original free guided tour at 21, to observe the medieval and Renaissance works of the Museum following the theme of the constellations , the time of heavenly conception in the centuries to the depiction of San Lorenzo. For information, please contact directly to Lia Museum by dealing 0187.731100: reservations are recommended.
